TRANSLATING NATIONAL-CULTURAL REALIA IN UZBEK HISTORICAL NOVELS: STRATEGIES AND FUNCTIONAL PRIORITIES

The thesis examines the translation of national-cultural realia as a central means of preserving the historical atmosphere and cultural identity of Uzbek novels. Drawing on examples from Oybek’s Navoiy and Pirimqul Qodirov’s Starry Nights, it discusses transliteration, cultural substitution, descriptive translation, contextual explication and pragmatic compensation. The analysis demonstrates that a culturally marked item should be translated according to its textual function rather than through an automatic preference for either foreignization or domestication.
